LUKE R JOHNSTON BARRISTER
With nearly two decades of legal experience in New South Wales, Queensland and Commonwealth jurisdictions, Luke has particular expertise in all areas of crime, criminal procedure, bail, sentencing and mental health provisions.

Tested Experience
Luke has over 19 years of experience in the criminal justice system.
​
That experience includes four years as a criminal investigator and ten years as a senior prosecutor with the New South Wales Police Force, and over four years as a solicitor before being called to the Queensland Bar in early 2024.
​
Luke has both prosecuted and defended hundreds of trials for matters ranging from traffic offences to drug supply, break and enter, sexual offences and serious assault charges.
​
He has extensive experience in the fields of domestic violence as well as sentencing matters and bail applications.
Luke has also appeared in numerous inquests and inquires and was awarded by the NSW Police Force for his advocacy during an inquest where the person of sufficient interest confessed to causing the death of the deceased.

Before being called to the Bar, Luke was a director of a boutique law firm on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, then a sole practitioner in both Queensland and New South Wales.
While working as a solicitor, Luke provided representation as a criminal defence lawyer as well as in family law matters, including divorces, property settlements and child custody disputes.

In addition to being briefed in private matters, Luke has appeared for the Queensland Director of Public Prosecutions and in Queensland Legal Aid matters.
